Lil Wayne again expressed his dissatisfaction with being overlooked for the halftime show of Super Bowl LIX in his hometown of New Orleans.

During Lil Weezyana Fest on Saturday, he told the crowd he had dreamed of doing the Super Bowl halftime show and that this year "it was ripped away from me."

The NFL announced in September that Kendrick Lamar was selected for the highly coveted gig. The choice came months after Lamar's longstanding feud with Drake reached a tipping point and resulted in an exchange of personal diss tracks. Lamar was widely considered to be the victor, to the extent that either could claim a win.

Andscape's David Dennis Jr. explained the perceived snub of Lil Wayne by those who ultimately decide on the Super Bowl halftime act. Beyond his connections to New Orleans, Lil Wayne has the popularity and song library to anchor a performance like this.

He subsequently said in an Instagram Live video that he was "hurt" upon learning the news about Lamar.

There's no question Lamar is a more notable performer at the moment, but that hasn't been the sole standard for who gets picked in the past. Plenty of halftime shows would either fall into the nostalgia category or symbolize a sort of lifetime achievement honor for a hugely influential star.

The Super Bowl is bound to wind its way to New Orleans again, which would give Lil Wayne another opportunity to fulfill his goal. Unfortunately, that isn't happening anytime soon with the next three host cities already locked in.
